CRES: Component: Database Management
OBJECTIVES
- Create a database management system to store all project information, data, and metadata in a consistent analytical framework.
- Develop a common spatial reference system for all common components.
- Provide a user-friendly web-based interface to all data for team members and the general public.
- Create a Program web-site to serve as a central clearing house for project updates, communication and dissemination of results.
DESCRIPTION
In order to integrate the results of the varying multi-disciplinary components that are a part of the CRES grant, a robust, centralized database management system (DBMS) is needed to store or provide access to all sub-project information/data and associated metadata in a consistent analytical framework. Additionally, a mechanism for sharing general project information and posting project descriptions will be required. As such, a Program specific web-site has been developed to provide project updates and disseminate results. The website is currently being maintained by NCCOS and UPR but contains links to all home institutions of principal investigators. Once data has been submitted or access to data provided, the database will be developed based upon the nature of the particular datasets. Furthermore, the DBMS will be made accessible to all members of the research team and the general public via the world wide web (NOAA's CoRIS website).
RELATION TO OTHER RESEARCH COMPONENTS
This component of the research program relies on each of the other components for content. The program website will be comprised of communications, data and analyses from each of the research components. The design, development and structure of the program DBMS will be contingent upon the types of data supplied by each of the research components.
