Circular disease front (arrow) killing encrusting coralline red alga, Neogoniolithon accretum (Foslie & M.A. Howe) Setchell & Mason. This condition is now common at the edge of the insular shelf and N, accretum colonies are presently in substantial less abundance than previously seen.

Peyssonnelia flavescens Ballantine & Ruiz, a new species of encrusting coral reef-inhabiting algae is a common deep (20 m) reef inhabitant and is one of the largest species of the genus ever described.

During the course of CRES macro algal assessment, three red algal species: Lithothamnion occidentale (Foslie) Foslie (Fig. 1), Lithophyllum congestum (Foslie) Foslie (Fig, 2), Metapeyssonnelia corallepida M.Verlaque, Ballest. & Antonius (Fig. 4) and one brown algal species: Dictyota pfaffii Schnetter, have been newly recorded for the algal flora of Puerto Rico.
