Data

The data below are available in .zip format for quicker, easier download. The zip files either contain files for a shapefile or an image mosaic. The shapefile zip files contain the following files a .dbf, .sbn, .sbx, .shp, .shx, .prj, and metadata in two file formats (.txt and .html). The image mosaic zip file contain the following files: .img and metadata in two file formats (.txt and .html).

Data Data Description

Image Mosaic
Landsat 7 ETM Description:

Seamless Landsat 7 ETM (enhanced thematic mapper) images were created for each of the main 8 Hawaiian Islands. Landsat 7 ETM is a polar orbiting 8 band multi-spectral satellite-borne sensor, which was deployed as a joint initiative of the U.S Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

IKONOS and Quickbird Description:

description

Shoreline Shapefiles A digital vector shoreline (land/water interface) was manually digitized from the one-meter pansharpened multispectral IKONOS imagery to provide accurate, up-to-date shoreline data. Those areas of the coastline that were obscured by cloud cover were derived from United States Geological Survey (USGS) Digital Raster Graphics (DRGs).

Digital Elevation Model (DEM) Description:

Digital elevation models (DEMs) were created for each of the main 8 Hawaiian Islands by mosaicking individual USGS 7.5'/ 30 meter DEM Quadrangles. Digital elevation models are arrays of regularly spaced elevation values horizontally referenced to a geographic or planar coordinate system.

Hillshade Description:

Hillshades for each of the main 8 Hawaiian Islands were created from DEMs using the Spatial Analyst Extension in ArcGIS 9.2. Hillshade values are computed by considering the illumination angle and shadows inferred from the DEM raster surface.
