This page has been created to distribute data and images collected during the Kachemak Bay bioeffects assessment cruise, along with any reports generated from these data. The cruise took place between August 11 and August 15, so please be sure to come back to download any of these materials as they become available.
Below are some preliminary results and images from the cruise.
Bioassay
Summary results of toxicity bioassays with sediment from the intertidal and subtidal areas of Kachemak Bay. The large majority of stations showed no significant effect, including sites in Homer Harbor. These results need to be interpreted in conjunction with the chemical and benthic community data.
Abundance
Summary results showing the density of animal life in sediments from the intertidal and subtidal areas of Kachemak Bay. The pattern shows a gradient of decreasing abundance toward the head of the bay which may be influenced by glacial meltwater . Homer Harbor (inset) does not show a pattern of impact.
Species
Summary results showing the number of species found in sediments from the intertidal and subtidal areas of Kachemak Bay. The pattern shows a gradient of decreasing abundance toward the head of the bay which may be influenced by glacial meltwater . Homer Harbor (inset) does not show a pattern of impact.
