Kachemak Bay, Alaska

During day two, the sampling team was very productive with the successful sampling of eleven sites. We were aided by two local students, Erika Gavenus who will attend Georgetown University this fall and Michael McNulty a junior at Homer High School. Many thanks go to Mark Janes from Nuka Research, who returned again to help out. Without his help the day would not have been nearly as productive. The Director of NOAA's Kasitsna Bay Laboratory, Kris Holderied, joined us during the sampling of Homer Harbor.

During the day we sampled deep waters during an especially low tide under the cover of a dense fog. The primary sampling areas were in and around Homer Harbor and also included areas near industrial and residential land use areas. We began the days work in northern Kachemack Bay east of Homer Spit and finished fourteen hours later with three sites in the Homer boat harbor.
